The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has strongly opposed the Delhi LG’s notification designating police stations for recording evidence of police officials. SCBA calls the move “arbitrary, unlawful, and against natural justice.”

New Delhi: The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) expressed strong opposition to a notification issued on August 13, 2025, by the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, which designates police stations as the official venues for recording evidence from police officials.

In a resolution dated August 22, 2025, the SCBA President and Executive Committee emphasized the seriousness of this issue, noting its direct impact on judicial independence and the fairness of the justice system.

The Association deems the notification not only unfair but also detrimental.

As stated in the resolution,

“The Association strongly condemns the said notification as being arbitrary, unlawful, and against the principles of natural justice. The measure not only undermines the sanctity of the judicial process but also compromises it.”

Furthermore, the SCBA expressed grave concerns that this notification undermines the balance between the judiciary and the administration.

According to their resolution,

“The SCBA firmly believes that such a notification gravely affects the independence of the judiciary and the fair administration of justice, besides being against the larger public interest.”

The Association has called for the immediate withdrawal of the notification.

In a strong concluding statement, the resolution asserts,

“Accordingly, the Supreme Court Bar Association resolves to record its strongest condemnation of the said notification and urges the authorities concerned to immediately withdraw the Notification in the interest of justice and rule of law.”

This resolution has been formally signed by Pragya Baghel, Hon’y Secretary of the Supreme Court Bar Association, on behalf of the Executive Committee.
